「COLLARLESS JACKET」

【design】
A jacket resembling a haori, redesigned by extracting the essential elements of a jacket and redesigning it into a more rational shape. The single front button is hidden to completely eliminate decorativeness. The vertical seams from the shoulders double as pockets, ensuring practicality. The continuous gusset on the bottom of the garment allows the arms plenty of room to move, even though it is a jacket, and provides a comfortable fit. The single dart on the back of the garment plays a role in creating a three-dimensional look for the shoulder blades, and the center is designed to conform to the body. The straight cut from the shoulder line to the sleeves is inspired by traditional Japanese architecture. This is a beautiful piece of clothing that incorporates traditional Japanese elements not just on the surface, but in the deeper parts.

[Straight lines and deformations]
At first glance, the eaves of traditional Japanese architecture appear to be straight, but in fact many of them contain curves. In the Japanese concept of lines, lines are formless, and indefinite lines are considered to be the force that determines the shape. Straight lines and curves are not thought to have different origins, but are created by forces that use indefinite lines as their mother. In contrast to the Western concept of lines, the opposition between straight lines and curves is an essential difference. And the tools used to draw straight lines and curves are also different. In the West, geometric principles such as straightedges, compasses, and cloud-shaped rulers are used. On the other hand, in Japan, shapes are extracted from threads and nature. These differences lie deep in the cultures of East and West. Just as Japanese architecture extracts shapes from nature, the straight lines of two-dimensional patterns create naturally bending (curved) lines by following the three-dimensional shapes of the body.

"AFTER HOURS" refers to the time when jazz musicians gather with their friends after playing at a club and have a jam session as they please. AFTERHOURS is a project born from the desire to create clothes like a free jam session, when four people - a designer, a pattern maker, and a fabric developer - came together. They propose timeless items based on their commitment to quality through a common language of eclecticism born from the resonance of their respective backgrounds and a praise for craftsmanship.
